Police in Rochester are investigating a double shooting on the city’s west side that happened last night around 7:30. Officers were called to the area of Jay and Colvin Street for a report of shots fired. When they arrived on the scene they found bullet casings on Jay Street and then found two victims at different locations. One victim – who is in his mid-20’s – was shot in the back and transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment of what were described as serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, the second victim – also in his 20’s – was found on Ames Street with a gunshot wound to the right knee. He was transported to the hospital for treatment as well. Police are continuing to look for a suspect in the shooting as well as a motive.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputies say an elderly man injured in a crash yesterday afternoon has died from his injuries. Sheriff’s Deputies identified the victim as 71 year old John Lootens of Chili. Investigators say Lootens was driving erratically on Route 531 when his car hit a concrete bridge support for Manitou Road. He was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital where he later died. Authorities believe he may have suffered from a medical condition before the crash.

A motorcyclist is recovering from injuries after crashing into a sign, a tree and then being thrown from his bike early this morning. Police in Irondequoit report the 41 year old driver missed a turn and then crashed on the roundabout at Seabreeze Drive. Officers on the scene said the driver was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment of what they described as non-life-threatening injuries. Tickets and charges are pending in the case.

Firefighters from eight departments responded to a house fire yesterday on Shirley Street in Shortsville. Authorities say the residents were not home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Officers on the scene say the house was destroyed in the blaze while the fire also melted power lines and damaged an adjacent home.

Multiple agencies responded to Ontario Beach State Park yesterday to help control crowds taht got out of hand. Rochester Police and Greece Police were called to help restore order at Charlotte Beach as they say the warm weather brought a lot of people to the area. Two people were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Police in Rochester are investigating a shooting that took place last night on a side street off of Lake Avenue. Officers say a man in his 40’s is expected to survive after being shot in the lower body around 11:30. The man was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment. Police are still looking for the shooter and are following a number of leads in the case. This is the fifth shooting in Rochester in less than a week.

Meanwhile, Police have identified the man who was found shot to death on Smith Street in Rochester Tuesday night. Authorities say 28 year old Paul Awuol died from a gunshot wound to the chest. Police responded to Smith Street near Grape Street around 6 o’clock Tuesday night. When they arrived on the scene they found Awuol on the ground in front of 560 Smith Street, a block away from the Rhino’s soccer stadium. Police are continuing their investigation into the shooting and as of yet have made no arrests.

A former Gates-Chili basketball coach already charged with rape was arrested again yesterday for allegedly violating an order of protection. Police stopped Monte Nowden yesterday afternoon for making an unlawful stop in his vehicle. When officers approached the vehicle they discovered Nowden was with the same teenage girl for whom an order of protection was issued.
