Police in Rochester are investigating a double shooting on the city’s west side that happened last night around 7:30. Officers were called to the area of Jay and Colvin Street for a report of shots fired. When they arrived on the scene they found bullet casings on Jay Street and then found two victims at different locations. One victim – who is in his mid-20’s – was shot in the back and transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment of what were described as serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Meanwhile, the second victim – also in his 20’s – was found on Ames Street with a gunshot wound to the right knee. He was transported to the hospital for treatment as well. Police are continuing to look for a suspect in the shooting as well as a motive.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputies say an elderly man injured in a crash yesterday afternoon has died from his injuries. Sheriff’s Deputies identified the victim as 71 year old John Lootens of Chili. Investigators say Lootens was driving erratically on Route 531 when his car hit a concrete bridge support for Manitou Road. He was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital where he later died. Authorities believe he may have suffered from a medical condition before the crash.
